Chlorine gas suffocates people in Eastern Ghouta and Russia announces cessation of military operations in Douma

On Wednesday night and Thursday morning, the government forces targeted Hammouriya, Eastern Damascus, using toxic chlorine gas. The gas suffocated a number of civilians.

The Civil Defense reported on their Facebook page that the toxic chlorine gas suffocated civilians, most of them women and children. Activists told SMART that the number of injuries exceeded 10.

On Wednesday, the count of victims of the Syrian government and Russia bombing on Ghouta reached 34 civilians, including three children and a woman, and dozens of injuries.

Earlier, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) reported that a convoy of 25 trucks is waiting at the arrivals crossing, to enter the north of Eastern Ghouta. According to Reuters, a World Food Programme spokeswoman at the United Nations reported that the convoy was loaded with flour and other supplies and will head for Douma, 

On Wednesday, the Syrian Red Crescent reported that it will enter humanitarian aid to Eastern Ghouta, in Damascus, on Thursday.

On Wednesday, artillery and air raids in a city and two villages in Idlib province, Northern Syria, killed and wounded eight civilians including a woman.

According to Civil Defense media, Russian warplanes launched a raid on the village of Hafserga (30 kilometers northwest of Idlib), killing a civilian while wounding four others including a woman. The Civil Defense transferred the wounded to medical clinics.

On Wednesday, an artillery shelling killed and wounded two civilians in the village of Jabriya of the town al-Sakilbiya (48 kilometers northwest of Hama), Central Syria.

Syrian loyalist forces and their militias regained control of the town of Karnaz and the village of Hamamiyat (66 kilometers northwest of Hama), Central Syria, after the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Islamist battalions withdrew from them.

On Thursday, a member of the Jaysh al-Izza Information Office, Abdul Razzaq al-Hassan, told SMART that between Wednesday night and Thursday, they withdrew from the town and the village due to intense bombing by loyalist forces.

On his Twitter account, the artist posted a silent video clip with his wife, carrying banners in both Arabic and English to express their solidarity and announce their hunger strike.
