Syrian government forces seize Jobar neighborhood in Damascus and Irbin and Zamalka in Rif Dimashq and half a million people are displaced to Northern and Central Syria

Field and local developments:

On Saturday, Syrian government forces took full control of the Jobar neighborhood in Damascus and the cities of Arbin and Zamalka in the middle sector of Eastern Ghouta.

Earlier, the final eighth batch of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the middle sector in Eastern Ghouta arrived in Northern Syria.

Syrian government forces and Russia launched airstrikes on the cities and towns of Idlib, Northern Syria, killing and wounding 12 civilians, including IDPs from Eastern Ghouta.

The Civil Defense said through its media that Syrian government warplanes bombed residential neighborhoods in the city of Ariha (14 kilometers south of Idlib), killing three civilians while injuring seven others. Civil Defense teams transferred the wounded to medical clinics near the area.

Dozens of civilians left the eastern outskirts of the villages near Syrian government-controlled areas in the southern countryside of Aleppo, at the request of the factions in the region. This request came after artillery shelling hit these villages from the nearby headquarters of the Syrian government.

The Syrian government and Russian aircraft launched violent raids on bridges and villages north of Hama, Central Syria, for fear of an expected military operation by the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

The military spokesman for the Jaysh al-Nasr, named himself Abu al-Majd al-Homsi, told SMART that the escalation on the northern and western Hama countrysides is supposed to be for fear and anticipation of an expected attack by the FSA factions.

On Saturday, a traffic accident killed five IDPs from Eastern Ghouta and wounded others. The IDPs convoy was passing in the village of Nahr al-Bared controlled by the Syrian government west of Hama, to arrive in the city of Qalat al-Madiq.

Local activists told SMART that a vegetables’ truck collided with three buses carrying the IDPs to Northern Syria, killing five of them and wounded eight others and four members of the Syrian Red Crescent.

International Coalition aircraft launched raids on the outskirts of the al-Mayadin Syrian government-controlled city (45 kilometers southeast of Deir Ez-Zor). Loyalist forces targeted areas controlled by the International Coalition-backed Syrian Democratic Forces.

The Islamic State (ISIS) launched attacks on the Syrian government forces bases in the eastern countryside of Deir Ez-Zor. During these attacks, ISIS exploded three car bombs, amid reports on its control of an oil field. Warplanes launched raids on the ISIS bases in the region.

On Saturday, the Syrian Human Rights Network documented the displacement of about half a million IDPs from the countrysides of Idlib, Hama, and Aleppo, Northern, and Central Syria, in five months, after the Syrian government forces advanced with the support of Russian warplanes.

The Syrian Network also reported that from September 2017 until Feb. 15, 2018, the Syrian government forces had seized about 150 villages and towns east of Hama, and east and south of Idlib. After that, about 420 thousand people have been displaced from these areas several times until they finally settled in the southern and western countrysides of Idlib.
