On Monday Syrian government forces announced that several of their members were killed and wounded after a missile bombing hit Taifor military airbase, east of Homs city. Media reports further detailed that the bombing killed 14 members from the loyalist forces, including some Iranian counterparts. Until now, France and the United States have denied their complicity in any of the strikes happening in Syria.

The Russian Defence Ministry issued a statement, demanding Israel clarify its reasons for targeting the military airbase in Homs city. However, the Israeli army refused to comment or confirm responsibility for the attack.

In February, an Israeli airstrike hit the Tailor military airbase, which consequently forced it to shut down. This came after an Israeli aircraft which was bombing Iranian positions in Syria was shot down. Israel also targeted many headquarters belonging to the Syrian government forces and the Hezbollah militia.

On Sunday night, the U.S. State Department called to hold Bashar al-Assad along with his government and supporters as accountable, and demanded that his activities in Syria be brought to an immediate end. It also called upon the international community to intervene so as to prevent further “barbaric” chemical weapons attacks, after the Syrian government killed dozens and suffocated thousands using such armaments during its massacre in Douma.

The U.S. President Donald Trump called Syrian President Bashar al-Assad an “animal” and vowed he would pay a “big price” for his chemical attack. A U.S. national security did not deny that the U.S. could launch a missile strike against the Syrian government for committing this chemical attack.

The British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson called for urgent investigation into the attack. The international community also called for those using chemical weapons to be held accountable for their actions. The French Minister of Foreign Affair, Jean-Yves Le Drian, called for an emergency Security Council meeting to discuss the chemical attack. Jean Yves Le Drian also said that France may launch a unilateral attack against the Syrian government.

The European Union accused the Syrian government of committing the chemical attack, and called for an immediate international response. Pope Francis of the Vatican also condemned the massacre. He added that the use of weapons that are considered “means of extermination” cannot be justified.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry called upon the international community to protect civilians in Syria. Qatar called for an immediate international investigation into the attack, whereas Turkish Deputy Prime Minister, Bakr Bozdaq, accused the Syrian government of committing the chemical attack, and called upon the international community to actively respond.

Russia and Iran denied that the Syrian government forces targeted Douma city using chemical weapons, and considered all reports produced to be fake. The political and military analyst, Brigadier General Assad Zu’bi, revealed that a month ago Syrian government forces worked in cooperation with three Russian officers to prepare a toxic gas similar to the one used in the chemical massacre in Douma city.
