Syrian government’s warplanes resume taking off from al-Dameer airport after western strike and Security Council will hold a meeting to discuss it

On Saturday, the Syrian government’s warplanes took off from the al-Dameer military airport hours after the western strike on his sites in response to the chemical massacre committed in the city of Douma (14 km east of the capital Damascus).

SMART published a video showing the flight of warplanes at low altitude over the sky of the city of al-Dameer since 7:30 am. Local activists confirmed that they had taken off from the al-Dameer airport.

The US President Donald Trump said the mission was carried out and implemented in Syria after the United States, France, and Britain carried out air and missile strikes on the positions of the Syrian government.

The Security Council held an emergency meeting based on a Russian request to discuss the repercussions of the military strike of the United States, Britain, and France on Syria.

During the meeting, the Russian delegate condemned the military strikes by the three countries against the Syrian government. He added that the attack contravenes the United Nations Charter and is considered a violation of international law, in addition to undermining international efforts to resolve the Syrian issue.

The US envoy to the United Nations Nicky Healy said the United States would be ready to carry out another strike if the Syrian government used the chemical weapons again. She noted they are sure to paralyze the Syrian chemical program and are ready to continue the pressure if the Syrian government tries to test our will again.

The United States said that the Syrian government used the chlorine and sarin in the city of Douma because of its lack of military manpower and as a punishment for civilians who resisted the hegemony of the President, Bashar al-Assad and “deterred against a further insurgency.”

The USA explained in a statement issued by the White House that a wide range of information indicates the use of chlorine in its bombing of Douma, while some additional information indicates that the Syrian government also uses the sarin nerve agent.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, called on all States members of the United Nations to exercise restraint and to avoid any actions that might lead to the escalation of the situation in Syria.

Guterres said in a statement published on the official website of the United Nations that he was following the reports of the military strikes of the United States of America, France, and Britain on the military positions of the Syrian government.

On Saturday, the Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani said that the US-led Western strike on the Syrian government will only lead to ruin and destruction.

Rouhani noted that the Americans are trying through the attacks to justify their presence in the region, according to the agency, Tasnim Iran.

On Saturday, the British Prime Minister, Theresa May said that the missile strike on the positions of the Syrian government was correct and legal.

May added that the aim of these strikes, to “deter the Syrian government from the use of chemical weapons and send a message to other countries that the use of these weapons is unacceptable,” according to Reuters.

The European Union called on Russia and Iran to prevent the Syrian government from using chemical weapons. The EU warned from the possibility of imposing further sanctions on the Syrian government.

The EU said in a statement that all countries, especially Russia and Iran, should use their influence to prevent the use of chemical weapons, especially from the Syrian government.

Three Gulf states supported the military strike carried out by the United States, France, and Britain on several military sites of the Syrian government.

A Saudi Foreign Ministry official said his country supported the military strike of the three countries on the military positions of the Syrian loyalist forces. The chairman of the council, Abdul Rahman Al-Daghifj, reported in a statement to SMART that the scope of the council's work is spreading in the towns of al-Kashkiya, Abu Hammam, and Granig. Each town represents three members work on securing the needs of the residents in the service sectors and restoring the damaged public institutions in the towns.

The Free Syrian Army factions in the town of Nawa (30 km north of the city of Daraa), Southern Syria, announced the formation of the Tahrir Nawa Forces and joining the Jaysh al-Thawra.

The commander of the Tahrir Nawa Forces, Mehran Al-Dia, reported in a statement to SMART that the formation was aimed at unifying all factions of the southern front, confronting the loyalist forces and the Islamic State. He noted that joining them is an open choice to the rest of the military factions.
