New group of internally displaced persons leaves Southern Syria, and Astana 9 Talks discuss issues of de-escalation zones and detainees

Local and Field Updates:

The sixth group of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Northern Hama and Southern Homs left for the Idlib governorate, passing through the city of Qalat al-Madiq. The group consisted of 50 buses and 50 cars transporting 3,000 IDPs and fighters of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) Islamist battalions.

IDPs from the town of Talaf in Hama postponed leaving the town, as they wished to leave all in one group and there was a lack of buses to transport 3,000 IDPs. 3,737 IDPs from Homs and Hama, mostly women and children, arrived at the camp of Kafr Lucin village in Idlib.

Manager of the mud village in the town of Maarrat Misrin, Idlib in Northern Syria, warned of diseases like Lishemania spreading among internally displaced persons (IDPs) due to sewage water leakages into houses and tents which shelter 275 internally displaced families.

100 fighters of the al-Liwaa Joubar and al-Ghouta joined the Jaysh al-Izzah of the FSA with their individual rifles after displacing the fighters from Eastern Ghouta to Northern Syria.  

Factions of the FSA and the al-Ahrar al-Sham Islamist Movement hired houses at the cost of 7,000 USD per month in the village of Sheer Maghar, northwest of Hama, in order for Turkish troops to establish a monitoring outpost to monitor the implementation of the  de-escalation zones agreement.

In Idlib, the al-Hayat Tahrir al-Sham accused the Islamic State (ISIS)  of exploding a prison of the Salvation Government in the city in order to release ISIS prisoners.

A bomb explosion killed a civilian and injured another on the road between the town of Armanaz and village of al-Beera in Idlib.

13 factions of the FSA formed the Suyuf al-Haqq operations room in Quneitra governorate in order to unify the factions and coordinate their military action

In Eastern Syria, dozens of residents of al-Jarniya village in Raqqa, protested against the compulsory recruitment campaign, which the al-Asayesh forces of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration carry out in Raqqa governorate.

In Deir ez-Zor, activists reported that international coalition airstrikes hit a checkpoint of the National Defense militia stationed in Western Euphrates, and killed two members.

IDPs at the al-Houl camp in areas controlled by the Kurdish Autonomous Administration in al-Hasakah complained about a lack of support and aid in recent months.

Political and International Updates:

A member of the delegation of the military factions of the Astana 9 Talks in the Kazakh capital of Astana, revealed that the issues of  the de-escalation zones in Northern Syria, and its detainees will be the most prominent issues to be discussed.

As Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr approach, the administration of the Bab-al-Salama border crossing with Turkey set the dates for Syrian refugees to return to Syria, starting from May 25th  until June 13th. The administration of the Bab al-Hawa border crossing set the date of return starting from May 21th until the end of Ramadan.

Iraqi refugee families at the al-Houl camp in al-Hasakah complained of being deprived from voting in the elections of the Iraq Representatives House, due to a lack of polling stations at the camp.
