Syrian government announces end of displacement inside Syria

Field and local developments:

On Wednesday, the Syrian government forces announced seizure of the entire northern Homs and southern Hama countrysides, after the evacuation of the last group of internally displaced persons (IDPs) as part of an agreement imposed by Russia.

Hundreds of IDPs have been waiting for buses for 18 hours near the Samalil crossing in the northern Homs countryside, Central Syria, to be able to evacuate to Idlib.

The governor of Homs and groups belonging to the Syrian government and its militias entered  the city of al-Rastan, 20 kilometers north of Homs, Central Syria, accompanied by members of the Russian military police. They raised the flag of the Syrian government in the city, after displacing the city’s fighters and their families as well as a number of civilians.

On Wednesday, Syrian government forces shelled the villages and towns in the northern and western Hama countryside, Central Syria. The shelling also burned crops in the area, creating losses for farmers.

The Turkish army established the 12th observation point near the village of Ashtabraq in the countryside of Jisr al-Shughur, 30 kilometers west of Idlib, Northern Syria, in accordance with the eased escalation agreement reached during the Astana talks.

On Wednesday, an airstrike killed a civilian in the city of Jisr al-Shughur, 30 kilometers west of Idlib, Northern Syria, coinciding with a shelling on two towns in the area.

Police and public security forces in the city of Azaz, Northern Syria, began a crackdown on child-driven motorcycle traffic after a number of traffic accidents were recorded.

On Wednesday, hundreds demonstrated in the village of Sijo, north of Aleppo, Northern Syria, in solidarity with the Palestinians. The demonstrators condemned transferring the U.S. embassy in “Israel” to the city of Jerusalem.

The Directorate of Services and Transport of the free Aleppo governorate council, Northern Syria, activated a public transportation project. The project aims to link the northern, western and southern countrysides of Aleppo with Idlib, and to activate the economic and social sectors in the region.

On Wednesday, mortar shells killed two people and wounded 19 others in the Syrian capital Damascus.

The Kurdish Autonomy Administration tested about 400 teachers in al-Hasakah, Eastern Syria, amid fear of dismissal based on the results of the test held in the city of Amouda.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights has documented the killing of 3,098 people, mostly civilians, in Syria during sectarian massacres by the Syrian government since the beginning of the Syrian revolution in 2011 until mid-February this year.

Political and international developments:

On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that "the terrorist threat still exists in Syria."

Putin added during a military meeting in the Russian city of Sochi that the number of Russian ships and submarines in the Mediterranean will reach 102 this year, and will include ships carrying Kalibr winged missiles.

On Wednesday, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) said that chlorine poison was maybe used last February in the city of Saraqib (16 kilometers east of Idlib), without specifying the perpetrator.
