Free Syrian Army faction defeats Islamic State attempts to infiltrate Daraa; armed attack kills members of Civil Defense

Field and local developments:

On Friday, the al-Omari Brigades faction of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) defeated the Islamic State's (ISIS) second attempt to infiltrate Daraa, Southern Syria, from as-Suwayda into neighboring Daraa, Southern Syria.

The media office for the faction said in a statement that after monitoring the operations they managed to arrest a group belonging to ISIS consisting of 19 members in the village of Gabib (16 kilometers southwest of as-Suwayda).

On Saturday, unknown armed persons attacked the Civil Defense center in the village of Tal Hadiya, 31 kilometers south of Aleppo, Northern Syria, killing and wounding seven Civil Defense members.

The Free Police deployed its members to the city of Afrin, 43 kilometers northwest of Aleppo, Northern Syria, after they graduated from a course held in Turkey.

The head of the Free Police in Afrin, Ibrahim Tlas, told SMART that about 620 members were deployed to the city. He stated that their duties are to take responsibility for the checkpoints and Syrian government buildings from the FSA factions and military police, pursue Kurdish People’s Protection Units' cells, and fight the dealng and use of drugs.

A military operation organized by the Religion Guards of the Jihad Qaeda against the Syrian government and its militias in south Aleppo, Northern Syria, has been stopped amid conflicting reports as to the reasons for it.

Local activists told SMART that the Religion Guards mobilized military vehicles and members and began the attack, but stopped after about half an hour. No details on the losses incurred by the parties were given.

On Friday, assassinations killed and wounded a number of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) members in Idlib, Northern Syria.

The HTS, the Sukour Sham Brigades and the Sham Corps of the FSA also formed a judicial committee to resolve the dispute in the village of Kafr Batikh, Southern Idlib.

On Friday, a clash between two families killed a man belonging to the Sukour Sham Brigades and wounded others in the village. The clash, which later turned violent, occurred when a civilian crashed into a harvester with his (or her) car. Residents of the city of Hama, Central Syria, fear that the Syrian government will exploit the smart cards project to enlist young Syrians to service in the Syrian government forces. As a result, many did not obtain the cards despite these being necessary for obtaining basic materials.

A Kurdish Autonomy Administration delegation visited the Arab Republic of Egypt where it met with officials of the foreign ministry.

The Hawar news agency of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration quoted an unnamed source as saying that the delegation discussed developments in Syria, including the preparations for the Cairo 3 Conference for dialogue and coordination between the parties concerned, in line with the Geneva Conference.

Political and international developments:

On Saturday, the U.S. State Department said that the United States will take "firm measures" against the Syrian government in the event of a ceasefire violation in Southern Syria.
