Syrian government launches arrest campaign in Aleppo and Hama; Statements continue on Southern Syria future

Latest field and local developments:

The Syrian government forces launched an arrest campaign in their-controlled neighborhoods of Aleppo and Hama. The government forces arrested several men amongst those who had returned to their homes in the Eastern suburbs of Aleppo. They also arrested five civilians at their checkpoints in central Hama for forced conscription.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) launched security campaign against the Islamic State (ISIS) in the towns of Dana and Sarmada in Idlib. Also, the Free Syrian Army (FSA) arrested the fourth group of ISIS in Daraa. The ISIS’ group consists of eight members who tried to infiltrate the governorate.

Activists from Idlib held both ISIS and HTS responsibility for abducting young people from the governorate and executing one of them after his family was unable to pay a ransom of $ 100,000.

The Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) arrested 23 people, including members of the ar Raqqa Revolutionists Brigade, in the city of ar Raqqa, on the backdrop of tension and clashes between the two parties in several neighborhoods, accompanied by a demonstration by civilians demanding the YPG to leave the city.

The production of rainfed crops has declined more than 70 percent in the city of Ain al-Arab (Kubani) in Aleppo, due to the instability of winter rains and the spread of diseases. About 35 percent of the irrigated crops in the region have been affected.

In the areas controlled by the Turkish-supported Euphrates Shield factions, the local council in the city of Azaz, in coordination with the tradesmen of the city, north of Aleppo, Northern Syria, held an initiative to support the Turkish lira, which has recently decreased.

The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for preventing Iran from having any military presence in Syria. Reuters quoted a Jordanian official as saying that Jordan, the United States, and Russia agreed on the need to preserve the zone of "easing escalation" in Southern Syria.
