Intensified Syrian government bombings hit Hama; Syrian Democratic Forces advance on Syrian-Iraqi border

Local and field updates:

On Sunday, the Syrian government forces intensified the bombing on the cities of al-Lataminah and Kafr Zaita and the villages of al-Arba’in and al-Zakat north of Hama in Central Syria. The bombings followed three days of relative calm. 60 rocket and artillery missiles hit the area.   

The Syrian government forces seized crops northwest of Hama in implementation of the recent law number 110. The Syrian government forces informed the local residents that they will seize entire agricultural lands whose owners fled to Northern Syria.

The Syrian government prepares to reopen the Homs-Hama highway after seizing control of Northern Homs and Southern Hama. Local activists expect that the Syrian government will open the highway for private and commercial traffic on Wednesday.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have gained control of 21 kilometers of the Syrian-Iraqi border in the Deir ez-Zor governorate, in coordination with Iraqi Army.  Commanders of the SDF said that they now surround the Islamic State (ISIS) in a 30 kilometer radius and will attack ISIS outposts in the villages of al-Sousa, Hajin, and Baghouz Fawqani.

The Syrian government forces mortared the villages of al-Janina and Shumrat al-Hussan in the Deir ez-Zor governorate, killing a child and injuring a man and a woman.  

A source from the al-Thuwar ar-Raqqa Brigade reported that the SDF intelligence service raided some of the home of the brigade’s fighters and arrested five fighters in the villages of al-Qahtaniya and Rabi’a. The SDF intelligence services had accused the fighters of attacking SDF checkpoints.   

A delegation of tribal leaders called upon the Raqqa civil council to put pressure on the SDF to stop their compulsory recruitment campaign in the Raqqa governorate.  

A delegation of the Democratic Front, which pretends to oppose the Syrian government, but works in the Syrian government-controlled areas, visited the Liberal Kurdish Party in the city of Qamishli in the al-Hasakah governorate.

Political groups and Free Syrian Army factions decided to continue to resist the Syrian government following a meeting in Daraa to discuss the recent updates and the Syrian government media outlets’ reports of a potential military campaign against the opposition factions in the area.  

The Syrian government forces raided the cities of Douma, Irbin, and Saqba in Eastern Ghouta and arrested 21 youths. The Syrian government forces released 15 youths, while the fate of six youths from Saqba remains unknown.

A gang kidnapped two members of the Hezbollah in as-Suwayda, Southern Syria. The gang drew the members to the city under the pretext of trading red mercury.

The Syrian government forces launched a guided missile into the al-Malah area, Aleppo,  killing two fighters of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham.

The death toll of the attack against the Civil Defense volunteers in the village of Tal Hadiya increased to six following the death of a volunteer due to previous injuries.

The administrative council of the city of Ariha announced independence from other institutions in the Idlib governorate, without stating the reasons behind the decision.  

Local councils in areas controlled by the Euphrates Shield Operation factions in Aleppo called upon employees and traders to buy as many Turkish Lira they can, because of its “dramatic” loss in value.

The Turkish communication network Turkcell covers Northern Hama following the deployment of Turkish troops to monitor the implementation of the de-escalation agreement, which was reached in Astana 8 talks.

Political and international updates:

The Lebanese Presidency grants Lebanese nationality to figures and families close to the Syrian government.

North Korean media outlets reported that the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad wishes to visit North Korea and meet President Kim Jong-Un.
