Suspected Russian airstrikes kill and injure civilians in Daraa; tension and arrest campaigns increase in al-Raqqa

Local and field news:

Suspected Russian airstrikes killed five civilians and injured others in the city of al-Hirak and the town of al-Soura, Eastern Daraa, Southern Syria.

Qasem al-Samara, the Head of the Local Council of al-Soura, said that airstrikes killed a man and a woman, and injured others. The warplanes targeted the residential neighborhoods, schools and the infrastructure.

The military factions destroyed a suspected Syrian Government warplane. The factions targeted the warplane with ground anti-aircraft missiles while launching an airstrike on the city of Busr al-Harir (33 kilometers northeast of Daraa).

SMART has received a video showing the moment of targeting a MIG 23, above Busr al-Harir.  

Clashes against the Central Operation Room of the South killed a Syrian Government commander and other fighters in Eastern Daraa.

Artillery shells injured civilians in a residential neighborhood in al-Sweida, Southern Syria.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested people while passing near temporary SDF checkpoints in Western al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria, without mentioning the charges.

Local activists reported that the SDF established several temporary checkpoints on the Aleppo-al-Raqqa road. The checkpoints spread mostly in the villages of al-Mansoura, Hnida, Kasrat Faraj and Kasrat Sheikh Jumaa.

The Civil Council of al-Raqqa announced the end of the curfew in al-Raqqa, except the al-Sawami-al-Kalta road.

The al-Asayesh forces, affiliated with the Kurdish Autonomous Administration, arrested five people while trying to enter al-Raqqa, during the curfew, despite the permission that allows some service institutes to operate.

The anonymous shooting injured three Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) fighters near the town of Ain Issa, 50 kilometers north of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria.

In Deir Ez-Zor, SDF media announced that the SDF arrested dozens of people during an arresting campaign in the villages of al-Shahil and al-Roz (37 kilometers east of Deir Ez-Zor).

In Idlib, a military faction infiltrating attempt killed and injured eight Syrian Government fighters in the perimeter of the town of Kafraya (eight kilometers north of Idlib), Northern Syria,

An explosive device injured a child in Jisr al-Shughur (32 kilometers west of Idlib).

In Aleppo, Northern Syria, the Syrian Government imposed fees on the transportation vehicles.

Local sources reported that the Syrian Government checkpoints in the Eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo, such as the al-Mashhad and al-Salihin checkpoints, are imposing various fees on the vehicles. The sources added that the forces delay and search carefully the vehicles that refuse to pay.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights demanded listing the Chemical Weapons file under the Seventh Chapter of the U.N.

In Central Syria, the Syrian Government reinforced its bases in Northern Homs and Southern Hama. the forces established new checkpoints and increased the reinforcement in previous ones.

Local sources reported that the Syrian Government Forces has added six checkpoints in al-Houla, Northern Homs since the middle of last week. Each checkpoint includes 20 fighters, without armored vehicles.

The al-Shabiha militias, affiliated with the Syrian Government, kidnapped two men while returning from Northern Syria to al-Rastan, Homs, Central Syria. The militias are demanding a high ransom to release the men.

International and political news:

The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, said that his county hopes to discuss the Syrian situation and the mutual relation with the U.S. National Security Advisor, John Bolton, during his visit to Russia at the end of June.

The Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said after winning the Turkish elections that his country will continue with the operations in Syria. An official in a Kurdish-Syrian party said that Turkey will “destroy” their project in Northern Syria.

The Working Group for the Palestinians in Syria demanded the international society and the sponsoring countries to double the support of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), so they can keep providing aid for refugees in Syria.
