Field and local developments:

The Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) announced that it gained control of the entire city of Sarmin, 8 kilometers east of Idlib, Northern Syria, as part of a security crackdown against cells belonging to the Islamic State.

The HTS media showed its security official, Saad al-Din Sabbagh, as saying that they had gained control over all of ISIS' sites in the city, furthermore killing and capturing a number of its members. Other ISIS members managed to escape the city.

The Idlib University of the Salvation Government in HTS-controlled areas announced to postpone the exams of students from Sarmin city due to the security campaign in the city, and cut off roads linking the two cities. It didn’t specify a new date for exams.

Since Thursday evening, the HTS has imposed a curfew in the city of Sarmin, coinciding with the spread of its security and military forces in the region. The HTS agreed with the city's Shura Council on the formation of a joint executive force to oversee the raids. However, the HTS then announced cancellation of the agreement due to "the inability of the city's leaders to bind ISIS cells."

The commander of the Jaysh Yarmouk, Bashar al-Zu'bi, said that most of the Houran groups met and formed a crisis cell to negotiate with the Russians in order to reduce the escalation and return security. He stressed that no items have been issued so far, calling on the people to not hold "individual settlements" with the Syrian government.

The Southern Operations Room factions announced that it defeated a Syrian government forces’ attempt to advance in the village of Jbeib, Southwestern as Suwayda, and destroyed two tanks with American “Tau missiles”. The factions also seized a Syrian government forces vehicle, and killed several members during the clashes.

The Syrian government forces intensively shelled the village of Karak Sharqi, Daraa, killing five civilians, including two women and one child, and wounding others. Local activists said that the Syrian government forces shelled the village using artillery shells and tanks after negotiations failed to withdraw the Free Syrian Army.

The Syrian Civil Defense said that the number of IDPs fleeing the Syrian government forces and Russian bombing on Daraa exceeded 200,000, with no accurate statistics. Most of them go to the border with Jordan and the occupied Golan, and there is no relief organization capable to help these numbers.

A U.S. State Department official said that the United States could not confirm a ceasefire in Southern Syria. He added that the Syrian government and Russia continue to bomb the area.

In the recent few days, the Syrian government forces gained control of several towns and villages in Eastern Daraa, including Basr al-Harir, Maliha al-Atash and Nahata and the city of al-Hirak, after intense bombing and battles against the FSA factions and the Islamic Battalions.

The Syrian government forces shelled residential areas in the town of Kafr Zayta, north of Hama, Central Syria, killing a civilian, who was released from the Syrian government’s prisons about a month ago.

The Syrian government forces shelled Lataminah town, using heavy artillery and mortar shells, from their headquarters in the village of al-Masasneh. They also targeted Lahaya village using mortar shells from their bases in the international highway, without causing any injuries.
