Islamic State mortars village in as Suwayda; International Coalition admits to killing 1,059 civilians in Syria and Iraq

Local and field updates:

On Thursday night, the Islamic State (IS) mortared the village of al-Shabaki east of as-Suwayda, Southern Syria. Nine mortar missiles hit the village as residents organized monitoring patrols and responded to the shelling that caused no injuries.  

In a reaction for the sudden IS attack in as-Suwayda, killing  200 civilians and injuring others without the intervention of the Syrian government forces, the Syrian Democratic Council expressed readiness to attack the IS in response.

Syrian Red Crescent delivered French humanitarian for residents in Eastern Ghouta recently controlled by the Syrian government forces. Earlier, France said that Russia vowed not to intercept the French aid convoy for 500 injured with significant injuries and 15,000 patients in Ghouta.  

Turkish Chief of Staff said that Turkish and American troops deployed the patrol number 20 along the line between areas controlled by the Euphrates Shield Operation factions in Northern Aleppo, and the Manbij area controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces.

Fifty Turkish military trucks each one of which transporting three cement walls entered through the Bab al-Hawa border crossing. The trucks headed to Turkish monitoring outposts in the Tal-al-’ees, Southern Aleppo and the Tal al-Towqan, Eastern Idlib. Opposition military factions did not escort the Turkish trucks.

The Syrian government delivered the Civil Registry Administration in al-Hasakah, Northeastern Syria, death certificates of three prisoners from the neighborhood of Ghowairan in al-Hasakah. The prisoners were tortured to death in the Syrian government’ prisons.

Initial Response Team exhumed 11 bodies of anonymous people from a mass grave near the cemetery of the zoo in the city of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria.

Activists reported that an IS’ landmine exploded against a forcibly displaced child in the town of Abu Hamam in Deir Ez-Zor, Eastern Syria, amputating the child’s foot.

Prices of fuel have increased for the three successive days in Northern Homs recently controlled by the Syrian government forces.

Humanitarian organizations held a memorial service for the Syrian late oppositionist actress Mai Skaf. The ceremony included a show of Skaf’ works and a moment of silence to commemorate her.

The Rif Dimashq Governorate Council formed a committee that represents people of towns, Southern Damascus (Yalda, Babila, Beit Sahim) in Northern Syria. The committee is supposed to help establish a database about forcibly displaced people and follow the Forcibly displaced families’ educational, medical, and relief needs.   

Political and International updates:

The International Coalition admitted to the killings of 1,059 civilians in airstrikes conducted in Syria and Iraq between Augustus 2014 and late June 2018.
