Woman kidnapped by Islamic State dies and the latter regains control of Syrian Democratic Forces in Deir ez-Zor

The Islamic State (IS) operating in Southern Syria informed the family of a kidnapped woman that she died due to her poor health.

Activists and local news networks reported that the IS sent a photo to the family of Zahia al-Jibai, a woman kidnapped by the IS from the village of al-Shabki, al-Suwayda. The photo shows al-Jibai dead, and the IS said that she died due to poor health.

 

IS members attacked the Afghan Fatimid Brigade military base, which is supported by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, in Deir ez-Zor, Eastern Syria.

Activists reported that the IS attack killed a Fatimid brigade member and injured two others in their base in the town of al-Hamdan, Eastern Deir ez-Zor.

The IS regained control of a village and an oil well in Eastern Deir ez-Zor, Eastern Syria, after clashes with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

SDF media reported that the IS attacked the village of al-Tayyanah on Wednesday night and forced the SDF to withdraw toward the town of Zibiyan. The SDF withdrew after two hours of clashing with the IS, coinciding with the absence of International Coalition warplanes.

In the north, clashes between the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) took place in Afrin (43 kilometers north of Aleppo). The clashes killed four YPG members.

Saif Abu Omar, a Faylaq al-Sham reporter, stated that they attacked a YPG cell in the villages of Kafranbo and Bai. Faylaq al-Sham merged with the Syrian Liberation Front. The Faylaq al-Sham members killed the cell members and seized their light weapons, bombs, binoculars and a camera after sweeping the area.

Syrian government restrictions on residents in Northern Homs, Central Syria, force pregnant women to give birth in expensive private medical clinics, which aggravates the suffering of families living in difficult humanitarian conditions.

Local sources reported that the cost of a cesarean section has increased since the Syrian government forces seized Northern Homs, and reached 55,000 Syrian pounds in private medical clinics in the area.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) documented at least 15 massacres in Syria during July 2018. The Syrian government and Russia committed eight of them.

The SNHR report mentioned that the Syrian government committed seven massacres in Daraa and al-Quneitra, and a suspected Russian airstrike committed a massacre in the city of al-Mayadin. The Islamic State committed five massacres in al-Suwayda and one in Deir ez-Zor. Another massacre was committed by other parties.

Students with different majors graduated from the Shine Academy for Training and Empowerment in Idlib, Northern Syria.

On Wednesday, the Head of the Institute, Rania Qaisar, stated that 20 Information Technology students and four Digital Journalism students graduated from the academy.

Students from the Free University of Aleppo protested in the village of Injara, 15 kilometers west of Aleppo, Northern Syria, against increasing registration fees.

Dozens of students participated in the protest. They raised signs saying, “the new student is my brother, my cousin and my neighbor, how am I different and our situation is the same?” And, “are we becoming a private school?”

The kindergarten registration fees doubled in Hama, Central Syria. The residents have been complaining since they are not able to afford the new fees.

A housewife, who introduced herself as Umm Ahmad, said that the registration fee for a kindergarten in the al-Baath neighborhood reached 250,000 Syrian pounds; it was 110,000 SYP last year.

International and political news:

The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that they are negotiating the release of two German human rights workers who were arrested in Syria.

The Czech Ministry added that Jan Hamacek, the Minister of Foreign affairs, arrived in Damascus to gather the two workers, who are in a good health, according to Reuters.
