The Islamic State killed a commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Abu Huzaifa al-Shahil, in clashes near the town of al-Susa in Eastern Deir ez-Zor, Eastern Syria.

The clashes killed SDF fighters and IS members, and both sides took captives.

Activists reported that commander al-Shahil worked with French troops in the International Coalition, which supports the SDF.

Local sources reported that the IS members killed nine members of the Syrian government forces, including two officers, and injured 14 other members in clashes outside the town of al-Sukhna in Homs, Central Syria. The sources added that the IS uses ambush and surprise attack techniques.

Special troops belonging to the Kurdish Autonomous Administration arrested three people, including an Iraqi woman, in the village of Khowaitaleh in the al-Ya’rubeiyah area adjacent to the Iraqi border. The Kurdish troops accused the detainees of contacting the IS.

Unknown gunmen opened fire at a checkpoint belonging to the Asayish forces of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration in the city of al-Tabaqa, Western al-Raqqa, Northwestern Syria. Clashes erupted during which the Asayish fighters arrested one of the gunmen and transported him to the military council of al-Tabaqa.

The Asayish imposed a ban on motorcycles in the al-Raqqa governorate from 8:00 pm until next morning.

The Initial Response Team (IRT) removed eight civilians’ bodies from beneath the rubble of a destroyed building in the al-Badou neighborhood, from graves in front of the gate of the 17th Division of the Syrian government forces in Northern Raqqa, and from the yard of the old mosque in al-Raqqa. The IRT delivered four of the bodies to their families.

Political and international updates:

On Tuesday, Alexander Lavrentiev, Russia’s special envoy to Syria, stated that the fight against terrorist organizations in Idlib could be postponed, but Turkey must assume the main responsibility for separating extremist Islamists from moderate opposition factions.

Ibrahim Kalin, the Turkish Presidential spokesperson, stated that the Russian and Syrian government forces’ potential attack on Idlib will hinder a political solution. Kalin noted that Ankara’s efforts alone are not enough to stop the attack.
