FSA gains seize HTS’ outposts in Idlib; Syrian Network for Human Rights documents 7,700 cases of arbitrary arrest in Syria in 2018

Local and field updates:

On Thursday, the National Liberation Front (NLF) and National Army part of the Free Syrian Army (FSA)  seized outposts of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in Northern Idlib, Northern Syria, during constant clashes in the area.

The NLF regained control of five villages in Western Hama, Central Syria, hours after the HTS seized them.

The NLF fighters launched a guided missile, killing 12 HTS fighters near the village of Balanta in Western Aleppo, Northern Syria. The FSA factions captured 15 HTS fighters during clashes in Southern Idlib. The HTS captured seven FSA fighters.

The FSA fighters gained control of the village of al-Ghadfa , al-Naqir, and Tarmala, Southern Idlib, following clashes with the HTS. The FSA established checkpoints in the villages. Seven FSA fighters were killed, and other HTS fighters were injured in clashes near Tarmala.

Clashes between the HTS and NLF killed a child and injured five civilians, including two children in Idlib. The lashes also killed a civilian and injured four others, including a child in the Deir Ballout camp in the Afrin area in Aleppo, Northern Syria.

On Thursday, activists organized a sit-in in the city of Maarrat al-Nu’man, 38 kilometers south of Idlib, against the HTS.

Twenty  people participated in the sit-in raising signs saying, “HTS is the title of aggression and darkness,” “ In words Jawlani, in deeds Irani (Iranian), and “It is time for all our factions to realize that al-Jawlani is Assad’s ally.”

On Thursday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) killed 22 Islamic State members in battles in Eastern Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria.

Residents complained about long hours of power cut in the city of  Deir al-Zor, controlled by the Syrian government forces. The residents said that power goes off for 12 consecutive hours in some neighborhoods of the city.

On Thursday, a week-old child died due to lack of medical care in the al-Rukban camp on the Jordanian border, 240 kilometers southeast of Homs, Central Syria. The child was affected by Hepatitis following delayed treatment in the UNICEF medical clinic. The child was denied access to Jordan for treatment.

Dozens of families left the al-Rukban camp for areas controlled by the Syrian government forces due to poor financial conditions and medical care, amidst the lack of humanitarian aid in the camp.

On Thursday, 55 forcibly displaced families left the al-Saad camp near the town of al-’Arisha, Southern al-Hasakah, Northeastern Syria, heading to Deir al-Zor.

The Martyr’s Families Committee of the al-Raqqa Civil Council organized a sit-in in the Mazar al-Shuhadaa cemetery in the city of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria, against Turkish interference in the area. The Asayish forces tightened security at checkpoints in the area.

The Initial Response Team of the al-Raqqa Civil Council retrieved 13 unidentified bodies from the Panorama cemetery and neighborhoods of Nazlet Shahadeh and al-Haramiya in al-Raqqa.

On Thursday, 40 oil trucks left areas controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to coastal areas controlled by the Syrian government.

Drivers reported that the trucks left the al-Rumailan and al-Sharqiya oil fields and were inspected and paid tolls in the city of al-Tabaqa in western al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria. The trucks headed to the al-Raqqa-al-Salamiya highway and subsequently to the coast.

Political and International updates:

On Thursday, the Syrian Network for Human Rights Network (SNHR) documented 77,00 cases of arbitrary arrest, including 504 children, and 699 women in Syria in 2018. The Syrian government forces arrested most the detainees.

The SNHR published a report saying that the Syrian government forces and loyalist militias arrested 5,607 people, including 355 children and 596 women in 2018. The report added that the Autonomous Administration forces detained 965 people, including 83 children and 74 women.
