SDF controls al-Susah town, Deir al-Zor, following IS’ withdrawal; France emphasizes its military presence in Syria in 2019

On Friday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) controlled the entire town of al-Susah, east of Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria, following the Islamic State (IS)’ withdrawal.

A military source from the SDF reported that the IS’ members withdrew from their outposts in al-Susah following an unannounced agreement between both sides. The IS members are now only existed in the northern part of the town of al-Baghouz, which is adjacent to the sub-river, which separates the town from the al-Rumman island.

Local sources reported that on Thursday, IS members attacked the SDF’ outposts near al-Susah, killing and injuring IS members and SDF fighters, amidst an International Coalition rocket shelling on the IS-controlled areas.

French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized that France will preserve its military presence in Syria in 2019 and the French Army will keep fighting the IS in the area. Macron added that the killing of the Four United States soldiers in Manbij, eastern Aleppo, showed that the battle would continue against the IS.

The Autonomous Administration transferred the trading activity with Iraqi Kurdistan from the Semalka border crossing to the al-Suwaydiya crossing in the al-Malikiya area, Northeastern Syria, due to damaged bridges in the Semalka crossing.

Haval Hassan Khalil, the Customs manager in the Semalka crossing, said that the reason behind transferring is the damage of the two suspension-bridges in the Semalka crossing. Khalil added that they would use the al-Suwaidiya crossing until the bridges are fixed, which could take two weeks.

The Russian forces stationed in the village of Qubayat al-Huda shelled residential neighborhoods in the town of al-Lataminah, northern Hama, Central Syria, killing a civilian.  The Syrian government forces also shelled al-Lataminah. A Russian rocket shelling hit the city of Kafr Zayta, without causing injuries.

On Thursday, the National Syrian Army of the Syrian Interim Government said that they are ready to launch a military operation with Turkey against the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) if it continues its violations that make the International Community consider Northern Syria is subjected to a terrorist organization.

Earlier on Thursday, the HTS demanded activists and employees leave the city of Darat Izzah, western Aleppo, Northern Syria. The HTS threatened to kill or arrest them. A source reported that the HTS fighters raided ten people’s houses and informed them leave. The source added that the HTS issued a decision to expel all the figures who opposed the Salvation Government operating in the HTS-controlled areas. The source noted that all of the figures are civilians.  

The Free Idlib Health Directorate said that the decision of organizations to suspend supporting medical projects and the free health directorates threaten to deprive 80,000 people of medical services in Idlib. The decision included 33 medical facilities, including 1,622 staff.  

A Syrian eight-years- refugee child, died after she drowned in a water channel that was formed after the blizzard in the town of al-Bisariya, Southern Lebanon. Water drifted the child to the sea, amidst constant searching for her brother who was attempting to rescue her.
