Seven children die in fire in Damascus; United States approve resolution to sanction Syrian government

On Tuesday night, seven children died in a fire in their house in the al-Amara neighborhood in Damascus.

On Tuesday, the Syrian government forces shelled the village of Howeir al-Aes, 26 kilometers south of Aleppo, Northern Syria, killing two children and injuring six civilians, including two children.

A civilian was killed during a disagreement between former commanders of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in the city of Busra al-Sham in the Daraa governorate, Southern Syria.

The local council of the village of Maar Shamarin, 36 kilometers south of Idlib, Northern Syria, decried the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)’s killing and injuring of two civilians during raids in the village to arrest HTS fighters.

On Tuesday, HTS fighters killed a member of the Syrian government forces and injured others in an infiltration attempt in eastern Idlib.  

The FSA killed four Syrian government forces members in clashes near Aleppo.

The Police and General Security Forces in the city of Azaz (43 kilometers north of Aleppo) arrested a group suspected of bombings and assassinations in the area.

On Tuesday, the Autonomous Administration's Executive Council in Manbij (80 kilometers east of Aleppo) refused one-sided Turkish management of a safe zone in Northeastern Syria.

Political and international updates:

On Tuesday night, the United States House of Representatives approved the Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act to sanction the Syrian government and its supporters. The act was named after the photographer who leaked tens of thousands of photos of prisoners who were tortured to death in Syrian government prisons.

The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo informed his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu that Washington is committed to address Turkey’s security concerns on the Syrian border.

On Tuesday, Sufyan Salman al-Qadat, the official spokesperson for the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, stated that Jordan decided to assign a consultant diplomat  as Charge d'Affaires of the Jordanian Embassy in Damascus.
