Four explosions kill and injure 20 people in eastern Aleppo; National Coalition for Revolutionary Forces and Syrian Opposition supports US Caesar Act

Local and field updates:

On Thursday, four separated explosions killed and injured 20 civilians, including children and women in eastern Aleppo Northern Syria. A motorcycle bomb exploded near the al-Center roundabout in the city of al-Bab, killing three civilians, including a child and injuring seven others. Motorcycle bomb and bomb explosions hit the town of Qabasin, wounding seven civilians.

A Free Syrian Army’ commander ruled out a Turkish and Russian military operation against the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in the Idlib governorate, Northern Syria, following talks between the Turkish and Russian presidents. The commander said that the presidents are likely to find tactics to deal with the HTS presence in Idlib.

The Syrian government forces stationed in nearby outposts shelled the town of Jarjanaz, southern Idlib, injuring a young man and a woman. The Syrian government forces shelled the villages of al-Sakik, al-Khowain, and al-Zarzour, without causing injuries.  

The HTS raided a house in the village of al-Deir al-Sharqi in Idlib,  arresting two people on charges of affiliation with the Islamic State.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested five young men in the village of al-Samra, eastern al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria, for compulsory recruitment. The SDF arrested four young men in the village of al-Tawi, on charges of attacking an SDF checkpoint.

The Initial Response Team (IRT) of the al-Raqqa Civil Council retrieved 11 bodies in the mass grave of the village of al-Fakhikha in al-Raqqa countryside. The IRT retrieved two bodies from beneath the rubble in the Nazlat Shehadeh neighborhood in al-Raqqa.

Fifteen thousand Syrian forcibly displaced people and Iraqi refugees have arrived in the al-Houl camp, southern al-Hasakah, Northeastern Syria, since the start of 2019. Six thousand families made up of 22,000 people live in the camp.

On Thursday, a fighter of the Iraqi Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas militia was killed due to a fire in his house in the al-Sayyida Zeinab area, southern Damascus. A short circuit started the fire.

A bomb exploded in a car in the al-’Adawi area in Damascus, damaging the windows of nearby buildings and cars. The explosion caused no injuries.

Israeli soldiers opened fire at the camp of al-Shahar near the town of Jabata al-Khashab in al-Quneitra, Southern Syria, killing a civilian and injuring five others. The soldiers stormed the camp. Sources suspected the soldiers raided the camp to search for fighters of the Lebanese Hezbollah militia, who dig tunnels near the Israeli border.  

 

Political and international updates:

On Thursday, the head of the National Coalition for the Revolutionary Forces and the Syrian Opposition, Abdul Rahman Mustafa, said that the Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act, which was approved by the United States House of Representatives on Tuesday, reflects the seriousness the National Coalition had been waiting for Mustafa added that the Caesar Act affects the Syrian government's supporters and any side which hopes to benefit from the reconstruction issue . Mustafa also said that all parties have to realize that their interests should lie in support of the negotiating process.

On Tuesday night, the US House of Representatives approved the Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act to sanction the Syrian government and its supporters. The Caesar Act is named after the photographer with the code-name Caesar, who was a member of the Syrian government military police. Caesar leaked 50,000 photos of prisoners who were tortured to death in Syrian government prisons,
