Syrian government shelling kills and injures FSA fighters in northern Hama; SDF arrests dozens of men in al-Raqqa

On Saturday, the Syrian government forces shelled a town and a village in Hama, Central Syria, killing and injuring six Free Syrian Free (FSA) fighters.

Local activists reported that the Syrian government forces stationed in the city of Halfaya, and in the checkpoints of Zillin, al-Zalaqiyat, al-Masasnah, and al-Madajen, targeted the town of al-Lataminah and the villages of Maarkabeh and Lahaya using more than 75 artillery shells, killing two FSA’s Jaysh al-Ezzah fighters and injuring three others in the vicinity of Latamna.

The Maghawir al-Thawra faction of the FSA in the Rukban camp on the Syrian-Jordanian border detained a former official for a sexual assault on a 10-year-old girl.

On social media, activists circulated a video showing a number of armed men arrests the former spokesman of the Maghawir al-Thawra, Muhammad Mustafa al-Jarrah, who was with a 10-year-old girl.

The number of men detained by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the town of al-Mansoura and its surroundings, 28 kilometers west of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria, increased to 38 in two days on the background of burning the SDF headquarters and three vehicles after it killed a man during an attempt to arrest him.

Local sources reported that on Friday, the SDF members arrested about ten men from the town of al-Mansoura, and six others from the nearby village of Hnida, on charges of participating in riots. Meanwhile, the Asayish forces have been imposing a curfew for the third day in a row.

On Friday, Syrian government forces shelling killed a member of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in the village of Abu Qamis in eastern Idlib, Northern Syria.

Local activists reported that the Syrian government forces targeted the HTS sites in the vicinity of the Abu Qamis village, killing one of its members.

On Friday, the FSA’s Jaysh al-Sharqiyah exchanged gunfire with the Jaysh al-Islam in the city of Afrin, 42 kilometers north of Aleppo, Northern Syria. The shooting killed and injured six fighters from both parties.  

Local activists reported that a weapon store owner, who works with the Jaysh al-Islam, and his relatives exchanged gunfire with the Jaysh al-Sharqiyah fighters in the al-Falat neighborhood in Afrin.

On Friday, the Syrian government forces arrested dozens of men from neighborhoods of Aleppo, Northern Syria, to enlist them in compulsory military service.

Local sources reported that the Syrian government military police arrested more than 80 men aged between 18 and 22 years from the neighborhoods of al-Ansari, al-Mashhad, al-Zabdiya, al-Fardous, Bustan al-Qasr, al-Nile Street and Saif al-Dawla.

The FSA's Sham Corps arrested a number of people responsible for the killing of its fighter, Muhammad Saeed al-Ater, under torture in one of its security prisons in the Afrin area.

The Sham Corps official, Omar Hudayfa, said that all those who were arrested are directly involved in the incident. Hudayfa added that they formed an investigation committee approved by al-Ater family and that they are ready to arrest anyone if committee asks to.

Political and international news:

In a statement, the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that he expects to complete the safe area in Northern Syria in a few months, adding that it will be under Turkish supervision.

This statement came during Erdogan meeting in the state of Erzurum, Eastern Turkey, to introduce the candidates of the Justice and Development Party, where he stressed that the goal of the safe area is to protect Turkey from what he described as "terrorists" and not vice versa.
