SYP exchange rate against USD records slight improvement

On Wednesday, the Syrian pound exchange rate against the US dollar recorded slight improvement in some Syrian governorates.
Local sources in the city of Hama reported to SMART that the USD exchange rate in the city decreased to 2,300 SYP for sale and 2,375 SYP for purchase, while on Tuesday it was 2,500 SYP for purchase and 2,700 SYP for sale.
The sources stated that the price of a gram of gold increased to 100,000 SYP, after it was 90,000 SYP yesterday, noting that food prices did not decrease with the USD decrease.
Sources in Damascus reported to SMART that the USD exchange rate decreased to 2,525 SYP for sale and 2,425 SYP for purchase in the Syrian government-controlled city of Damascus, while on Tuesday it was 2,650 SYP for sale and 2,550 SYP for purchase.
The sources said that the USD exchange rate in the Aleppo governorate reached to 2,500 SYP for sale and 2,475 for purchase, while on Tuesday it was 2,625 SYP for sale and 2,560 SYP for purchase.
Owners of money exchange shops said that the USD exchange rate reached 2,525 SYP for sales and 2,550 SYP for purchase in the Idlib governorate, the same as it was in mid June, amidst changes in the daily exchange rates.
People in Syrian government-controlled areas suffer from several crises, including the absence of medicine and water, high food prices, increased hours of rationing electricity, in addition to the lack of household gas and fuel, as a result of repeated economic sanctions imposed on the Syrian government by the United States and the European Union.
