Aleppo - SMART

Dealers in Northern Aleppo,Northern Syria complain that the Al Sultan Murad Battalion of the Free Syrian Army closes the roads to towns and cities in Eastern Aleppo, following tensions with the Al Jabha Al Shamiah.

On Saturday, Oct.14,2017,  the dealer, who prefered to be unnamed for security reasons told SMART that the Al Sultan Murad checkpoints prevent trucks from crossing the areas that the battalion controls in Northern Aleppo to that of the Free Syrian Army or the Syrian Democratic Forces in the Eastern Aleppo countryside.

The Dealer added that the continued roadblocks  will increase the expenses and wages of trucks and drivers and will expose the goods to damage.

The Dealer said,” once, the Al Sultan Murad Battalion forced us to head towards the battles’ fronts with the Syrian Democratic Forces through the agricultural lands, which put us in danger…. This is an infringement of the people’s rights and livelihoods.”

The dealer demanded that the concerned authorities and Free Syrian Army settle the problems of the two battalions so that the Al Shamia returns to accompany the trucks, heading towards the areas of SDF and not to block their way.

Baraa Al Shami, the Al Jabha Al Shamiah’s spokesman told SMART that the tensions with the Al Sultan Murad started when the latter brought reinforcements, closed the roads, and attempted to take decisions on its own.

Al Shami held the Al Sultan Murad responsible for the consequences of the road closures, preventing trucks and goods from passing.

Al Shami noted that the Islamic Syrian Council with dignitaries from the area’s clans seek to settle the problems. Al Shami welcomed any solution that would end the tensions.

the roads closures and dealers’ complaints followed tensions between the Al Sultan Murad and the Al Jabha Al Shamiah of the Al Furat Shield Operation. Tensions also coincided with the Syrian Interim Government gaining control of the Al Bab Al Salamah border crossing from the Al Jabha Al Shamiah formally. The border crossing was the point of disagreement between the Al Sultan Murad and Al Jabha Al Shamiah.
