Turkey - SMART

The Executive Office in the Damascus Governorate of the Syrian regime raised the fees of burial. It also issued fees for two-story graves and waived entitlement for heirs and relatives.

According to the regime's media, the new price of the excellent  tomb reached 25,000 Syrian pounds after it was previously 12,500 pounds. However, the new price of the first class tomb reached 16,000 pounds, the second class tomb 14,000 SP, and the third class tomb 12,000 SP.

In addition, the cost of preparing the tomb is 17,000 pounds. The cost of burying the dead is 2500 pounds, so the cost of burial reached 35 to 50 thousand SP.

The governorate limited the price of a two-story tomb in Damascus by 150,000 in the Dahdah cemetery, and 100 thousand in the Bab Saghir cemetery. However, the price of a two-story tomb in the rest of the Damascus cemeteries is 75 thousand.

In October 2016, the people of Damascus told SMART that many abandoned graves were stolen in the cemetery of Dahdah, Baghdad Street. They accused the guard of the cemetery after the regime interrupted  their salaries for more than a year.

Residents of regime-controlled neighborhoods in Damascus suffer from a severe economic situation due to high prices of foodstuffs and transportation, as the US dollar increases against the Syrian pound.
