Damascus Countryside - SMART

The Damascus Countryside Governorate distributed rice in exchange for a fair price to the cities and towns of Eastern Damascus, as part of the plan to support food security .

On Wednesday, a member of the Information Office in the Damascus countryside, Abo Al-Yosr Baraa, told SMART that they began to distribute a kilo of rice for each family at 700 Syrian pounds after the price exceeded 1800 pounds in markets.

Baraa explained that they smuggled vegetables, which are not planted in Eastern Ghouta, through tunnels and stored them to be used.

For several months, loyalist forces gained control of the Barza and Qaboun neighborhoods. The neighborhoods are linked with tunnels from Eastern Ghouta. The people of Eastern Ghouta smuggled food, fuel and gas through the tunnels at low prices.

Baraa pointed out that the distribution included the cities and towns of Eastern Ghouta and the district of Jobar was based on the use of statistical cards.

Baraa said that the food aid plan started by distributing a liter of vegetable oil at a price of 1,000 pounds. However, a liter of vegetable oil in the market is 6,000 pounds.

The Damascus countryside Governorate distributed bread in exchange for a fair price to the local councils in most of the towns and cities of Eastern Ghouta. Therefore, the price of bread decreased to 700 Syrian pounds after it was previously 1400 pounds.
