Daraa - SMART

Teachers complained about the interruption of their salaries for two years in the village of Al-Shiyah in Al-Lajat area, which is 75 km northeast of Daraa, Southern Syria.

On Tuesday night, the Director of Al-Shiyah School, Yamen Hamad, told SMART that 14 teachers have not been paid for two years because of the neglect of organizations after the school's separation from the Education Directorate of the Syrian regime.

Hamad pointed out that the school will lose teachers as a result of their work in agricultural lands because of the poor living conditions. He also highlighted the tragic situation of students due to high price of educational supplies.

Hamad noted that they have contacted many organizations such as Olive Branch and Orantis to support the school, but they didn't respond. He appealed to other organizations to help them as soon as possible.

The local council of the Al-Lujat area said that 90 percent of the schools are destroyed. Al-Lajat  also suffers from poor education due to repeated displacement of its people as a result of the bombing from Syrian loyalist forces.

On Dec. 25, the Daraa Governorate Council launched a project to restore 26 schools in the countryside of Daraa, which extends from the town of Naseeb to the city of Bora and the town of Mareeba.
