Damascus Countryside - SMART

On Monday, activists launched an information campaign in Eastern Ghouta, Southern Syria. They named the campaign, "Al-Assad is besieging Ghouta." The campaign highlights the imposed siege by the Syrian loyalist forces on Ghouta since 2013.

One of the campaigners, Yusuf Al-Bustani, told SMART that the campaign hopes to implement the eased escalation agreement and allow the entry of goods to the area without paying bribes to loyalist forces.

Al Bustani pointed out that the campaign will last for a week and will highlight the suffering of patients in Ghouta to  take them out of it.

It also aims to draw the attention of the international community, the media, the United Nations and humanitarian and relief organizations to the disastrous situation of 400,000 besieged people in Ghouta.

The campaign explains the reality of Ghouta via Twitter, pictures, statistics, written and television reports. It also includes meetings with civilians and doctors. It issues political and media statements regarding the siege.

The campaign also calls for demonstrations inside and outside of Syria.

Earlier today, the National Coalition called to end the siege of Ghouta. It called on the international community to be responsible for the suffering of civilians after the death of a girl as a result of malnutrition.

In the past three months, twenty cancer patients, including five children, died as a result of the lack of medicine. The price of foodstuffs and water in Ghouta increased sharply.
