Idlib - SMART

On Saturday, Oct.21, 2017, displaced refugees from Eastern Syria elected an Executive Office in Idlib to establish a civil and political council that represents them. The refugees held a conference in the city of Salqin with the participation of humanitarian aid groups.

Abu Abdul Rahman, an official of the humanitarian groups for Eastern Syria told SMART that the council aims to provide the necessities for  25,000 refugees from Hasaka, Raqqa, and Deir Ez Zor in Idlib.

Khudur Al Hajr, a participant in the conference told SMART that "  humanitarian aid groups neglected Eastern Syria before and during the revolution”.Al Hajr hoped for the conference to succeed.

During the conference, 24 members of the Executive Office were elected to nominate a head for the council and members of aid and educational offices.

The Russian and loyalist bombings on Deir Ez Zor displaced 400,000 civilians and killed and injured hundreds others. Civil Committees and activists called to secure safe corridors for civilians to flee.

Hundreds of families fled Raqqa due to the bombing and battles between the Islamic State and the Syrian Democratic Forces.
