Daraa - SMART

The local council of the city of Bosra Al-Sham in Eastern Daraa, Southern Syria, set the maximum price per cubic meter of water at 500 Syrian pounds.

The head of the local council of the city (38 km east of  Daraa), Ibrahim Meqdad, told SMART that they held a meeting with the owners of water tankers and representatives of the free police to limit the price, due to the exploitation of traders of the high prices of fuel and wells.

Meqdad pointed out that the price per cubic meter of water is more than 700 pounds, although the price of filling the cubic meter does not exceed 100 Syrian pounds for the tank owner.

Al-Miqdad explained that some of the villages and communities have stolen water, which supplies the city. He pointed out that they had taken a line of water from the Asmad wells to the center of the city to reduce their distance to the tanks and reduce the cost on them.

On Sept. 7, the Future Horizons launched a project to pump drinking water to the city of Busra Al-Sham, due to the lack of water in the city and the abuses of the old water line.

The “Shabab Al-Sunna” and the “Basraa Al-Sham Brigade” of the Free Syrian Army have launched a campaign to end the violations on the Kahil-Bosra water line, following the request of the civil bodies, with the aim of ending the suffering of the civil society from the water crisis.
