Homs - SMART

Breeders of horses in the Northern Homs countryside, Central Syria established the Al-Asala Association to authenticate the original Arabian horses, preserve their offspring and take care of them.

On Monday, the Director of the Association, Faisal Al-Ashqar, told SMART that the” Al-Asala” Association was established three months ago. It aims to keep the horses out of smuggling operations and to solve their problems. Bombings have killed and injured about 50 horses. In addition, a number of horses were smuggled out of Syria. He noted that the association has difficulty securing feed and vaccine for the horses.

Al-Ashqar added that the number of horses in Northern Homs reached 200 horses. He called for the Arab Horse Organization to visit the area and classify horses; to not let their pedigree get lost.

A horse raiser, Abd Al-Hamid said that they suffer from a lack of medicine and the high prices of fodder. He indicated that the association is unable to take care of horses under the imposed siege on the region.

In August, the Fajr Arabian Horse Association was organized by the second horse festival in the town of Ma'asran in the southern Idlib countryside. The festival was held to shed light on the problems that horse breeders experienced due to the lack of medicine and vaccine.
