Hama - SMART

The Civil Defense removes the rubble caused by the loyalist bombings on the Al Fustoq Al Halabi main market and the streets of Mourek, 27 km to the north of Hama, Central Syria.

Ahmad Al Tulfah, the media official of the northern sector of the Civil Defense in Hama told SMART that the campaign is an individual initiative and will last for three days “to encourage civilians to return to the city after Damascus-Aleppo Highway reopened and natural life returned to Mourek.”

Al Tulfah noted that the campaign is mainly dedicated to removing the rubble in the Al Fustoq Al Halabi market, which is the largest in Northern Syria, and covers the towns and villages in Northern Hama and Southern Idlib. Five years ago, the market closed due to the constant bombings on Mourek, according to Al Tulfah.

Al Tulfah Added that the campaign faces hardships such as lack of funding and large amounts of rubble and shrapnel, which damage vehicles’ wheels.

Days ago, the Al Hayat Tahrir Al Sham and the loyalist forces in Hama opened  the Al Damascus-Aleppo Highway for the first time, only for trade trucks.

Local activists expect that Mourek and Al Qal’et Al Madiq will become a trade crossing and  a market to exchange goods between the areas under the loyalist forces and the military factions’ control.
