SMART- Al Hasakah

On Friday, members of the Kurdish National Council and residents in the city of Maalikiya in Al-Hasaka, Northeast Syria. Four members of the Peshmerga Syria of the National Kurdish Party were killed in clashes in Iraq. The National Kurdish Party is founded in 2012, aims to establish a federal regime in Syria.

Four members of the Peshmerga Syria were killed and 34 others were slightly injured in clashes with the Popular Crowd militia in the village of Ain Aweys in the Zammar district of Iraq near the Syrian border, which also killed 10 members of the Popular Crowd militia.

A member of the Central Committee in the Kurdistan Democratic Party of the National Kurdish Party, Hussein Suleiman, told SMART that that they received from the crossing “Semalka,” the bodies of the four dead, pointing out that clashes with the Popular Crowd militia resulted in the deaths of seven, three of them buried in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

He added that the Peshmerga Syria is fighting in the Kurdistan region against the ISIS and the Iraqi forces and its affiliated militias, pointing out that the number of the Peshmerga Syria members is 7000, 44 over them were killed.

On Jan.23, the Kurdish Nationalist revealed to SMART that there is presence of armed wing belonging to it, located in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, including Kurdish recruits who are dissident from the Syrian loyalist forces, in addition to volunteers who are Syrian refugees (Kurds) in the region, and will enter Syria only in an international understanding.

On Thursday, several artillery shells on the Iraqi side of the Swedish border crossing between Syria and the Kurdistan region of Iraq, killing one civilian and injuring four people. The international coalition announced that the parties reached a truce to stop military operations and clashes in the area. The international coalition includes 73 countries and is led by the USA. It restricts its military actions to fighting ISIS.
