Aleppo - SMART

In Azzaz City (50 km north of Aleppo), Northern Syria, the police command and the general national security forces graduated the first class of policewomen, who will operate in several official offices that mostly concern women.

Abdullah Zedan, manager of the police and security forces’ media office, told SMART that the forces accepted 90 women volunteers in order to activate women’s role in society. The volunteers finished a one-month course where they attended lectures about dealing with gunmen, criminal evidence, police work and inspection methods.

Zaedn pointed out that the volunteers were military and physically trained; they also had training on using Kalashnikovs and guns. He added that the volunteers will be distributed according to the official departments’ needs. Zedan said that the volunteers were chosen after a security study about their age and their revolutionary direction.

On Mar.2, 2017, after they finished a military course in Turkey, 826 elements of the Free Police arrived in Azzaz City. The elements will form an executive force and will operate in courts and local councils.
