Turkey - SMART:

The Syrian Network for Human Rights said on Sunday that the loyalist warplanes shelled using more than 2,000 barrel bombs in 2017. The barrels were released on residential areas around Syria, and killed 130 civilians.

The network added in a report on its official website that the number of barrels overall since the start of the civil war has reached 6,243 barrels. This has led to the death of 130 civilians, including 55 children and 32 women.

According to the report, the barrels targeted 22 residential areas, including seven mosques and five medical centers. It also says that loyalist warplanes dropped 312 barrels on areas that are out of its control during last December.

Moreover, the network added that the Syrian government is committing crimes against humanity by shelling barrels on residential areas, describing it as “barbaric and primitive”.

The network assured that the loyalist forces violated United Nations Security Council resolutions number 2139, 2209 and 2118. They demanded that the loyalist forces implement the resolutions.

The government’s warplanes dropped 534 barrels on four governorates during last November, according to the Network. It also documented 435 casualties, including 145 children and 85 women, by Russian, loyalist and International Coalition’s bombing during the same month.
