Idlib, SMART

On Monday, loyalist forces gained control of Al I’jaz village in northwestern Sinjar, 50 km southeast of Idlib, Northern Syria, after the Hayat Tahrir Al Sham withdrew from the village.

Activists said that loyalist forces advanced towards the village after heavy bombing with a variety of offensive weapons. Loyalist forces clashed with members of Al Hayat, who conceded due to the intensified bombings. The activists did not provide information about the casualties of both sides.

On Sunday, loyalist forces gained control of Sinjar, which is a strategic town and considered the entrance for loyalist forces to advance to Abu Al Duhur military airbase, 17 km north of the town. Gaining control of the airbase is the main goal of the loyalist forces, according to activists.

Loyalist forces supported by Russian warplanes and helicopters have launched a military campaign against Southern and Eastern Idlib, killing and injuring dozens of civilians while destroying major institutions and infrastructure. The campaign has also displaced 80,000 civilians so far. During the campaign, loyalist forces have gained control of dozens of villages in the area.

Al Ahrar Al Sham Islamist Movement raised the alertness among its members to hold off  loyalist forces’ and sectarian militias’ advance in Idlib. Al Ahrar Al Sham holds the Hayat Tahrir Al Sham responsible for the loyalist forces’ advance in the area.
