Turkey, SMART

Hospitals, medical clinics and dispensaries stopped servicing civilians in Eastern Idlib, Northern Syria, due to the military campaign of loyalist forces and allied sectarian militias in the area.

On Monday, the minister of Health in the Syrian Interim Government, Firas Al Jundi, told SMART that nine public and specialized hospitals, 31 medical clinics and dispensaries in the area have shut down. Al Jundi noted that 50 percent of hospitals and medical clinics in the area have been destroyed, while the rest seem to have shut down on a permanent basis.

Al Jundi said that hospitals and clinics used to include 67 doctors and 270 nurses and serve 450,000 civilians. Al Jundi added that loyalist bombings injured 46 nurses and 17 doctors.

Earlier, organizations evacuated medical clinics in Southern Aleppo due to intensified loyalist bombings. Loyalist forces have been bombing the area intensively lately, attempting to advance further.

Loyalist forces supported by Russian warplanes and helicopters have launched a military campaign against Southern and Eastern Idlib, killing and injuring dozens of civilians while destroying major institutions and infrastructure. The campaign has also displaced 80,000 civilians. During the campaign, loyalist forces have gained control of dozens of villages in the area.
