Idlib, SMART

On Monday, unknown gunmen destroyed a Turkish military vehicle in Zarzita village, 32 km south of Aleppo, Northern Syria. The vehicle was in a military convoy heading through Kafr Louseen village on the Turkish border.

Local activists told SMART that the gunmen launched an RBG missile toward one of the vehicles in the convoy, destroying it. The activists noted that the Turkish Army deployed to the village and chased the gunmen amidst the shooting.

A witness told SMART that the convoy consisted of four tanks, five infantry fighting vehicles (BMPs), minesweepers, bulldozers, infantry transport vehicles, one ambulance, and two accompanying vehicles. The convoy entered from Kafr Louseen, 30 km Northern of Idlib, shortly before being targeted.

The witness noted that the convoy entered from Kafr Louseen and headed to the villages of Al Qah and Salwa in Idlib. The witness added that the direction the convoy was headed leads to Daret Azzeh, Western Aleppo.

The Turkish government has established two monitoring points in the castle of Jabal Samaan, Aleppo and the village of Salwa, Idlib. Turkish military convoys enter Aleppo and Idlib on a regular basis. The reason behind these monitoring points is the implementation of the eased escalation agreement that was reached in the sixth Astana talks. Turkey has said that it seeks to establish four additional monitoring points.
