Turkey - SMART

On Tuesday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said that the Syrian government’s attack on the moderate opposition in Idlib, Northern Syria, under the pretext of the presence of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, undermines efforts to reach a political solution.

The Turkish Foreign Minister, Mouloud Jawish Oglu, said that the parties, which will meet in the Syrian National Dialogue conference, Sochi, Russia, should not do this to each other. Oglu was quoted on the the official website of the Turkish TV channel TRT.

Air strikes ordered by Bashar al-Assad's government and Russian forces have killed and wounded tens of thousands of Syrians since the beginning of the civil war. Dozens of villages and towns are now under the control of the government, including the strategic village of Sinjar, about 17 km away from the Abu al-Dhuhour Military Airport. More than 80,000 Syrians have been displaced internally.

The Kazakh Foreign Ministry announced the date of the National Dialogue on Jan. 29 and 30 in Sochi. The delegation of factions to Astana, which is invited officially by Russia to attend the conference, have not decided to attend yet.
