Idlib, SMART

On Wednesday, loyalist forces reached the outskirts of Abu al-Duhur military airbase in Eastern Idlib, Northern Syria.

The Head of the Local Council of Abu al-Duhur, Hasan Khalaf, told SMART that loyalist forces are now 1 km away from the airbase after gaining control of the village Bayaa al-Dansh south of the airbase.

Khalaf noted that loyalist forces have also gained control of the villages of Waredit al-Kow, Al Raafia, and Jub Abyad, after the withdrawal of the Free Syrian Army and Islamist battalions.

On Tuesday, a military source told SMART that loyalist forces are likely to stop their military operation in Idlib after gaining control of the airbase, under the de-escalation agreement.

Loyalist forces supported by Russian warplanes and helicopters have launched a military campaign against Southern and Eastern Idlib, killing and injuring dozens of civilians while destroying major institutions and infrastructure. The campaign has also displaced 80,000 civilians. During the campaign, loyalist forces have gained control of dozens of villages in the area.
