Turkey - SMART

On Wednesday, the loyalist forces gained control of a new village near the town of Abu al-Thahr, 42 km southeast of Idlib, Northern Syria, after the withdrawal of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

Activists said that loyalist forces gained control of the village of Tal Salmu, amidst aerial bombardment, a missile, and a heavy artillery. There were moderate clashes with HTS members, who withdrew later because of the bombing.

Earlier in the day, the head of the local council in the town of Abu al-Duhur told SMART that the loyalist forces came as close as 1 km away from the airport, after gaining control of the village of Biaa al-Dansh south of the airport.

A military campaign by the loyalist forces supported by Russian warplanes and the Syrian government has been launched on the southern and southeastern Idlib countryside. The campaign has enabled the loyalist forces to gain control of dozens of villages, killing and injuring dozens of civilians, while destroying vital infrastructure and displacing more than 80,000 civilians.
