Turkey - SMART

Hundreds of Syrian loyalist forces' memebrs, including 107 officers, have been killed in the battle of Harasta located in the Armored Vehicle base in the city of Harasta, 10 km east of Damascus, according to the battle's operations room.

A statement from the operations room of the battle of Harasta, which was launched by the Islamic Ahrar al-Sham Movement last year, documented the death of 231 members of the loyalist forces, including 107 officers of different ranks, including one general, six brigadiers and five colonels. Most of the other officers were lieutenants.

The statement said that the number of deaths among the loyalist forces and supporting militias exceded 500 members and officers, most notably the General Walid Khawashkheji. 251 is the number of killed that have been identified so far.

SMART tried to contact Ahrar al-Sham and the factions involved in the battle, such as the al-Rahman Legion, but it did not get details about the latest developments in Harasta, amid media silence described by activists as "ambiguous".

More than 50 days have passed since the battle of Harasta began. It was launched in response to the government’s ongoing violations in Eastern Ghouta. During the battle, loyalist forces have lost many of their members and the factions have now besieged them in the Armored Vehicle base.
