Rif Dimashq, SMART

On Monday, loyalist forces bombed the cities and towns of Eastern Ghouta in Damascus countryside, killing two civilians, including a child, while injuring others, including women and children.

Local activists told SMART that heavy artillery bombings targeted residential neighborhoods in Hamouria, 11 km east of Damascus. The bombings came from loyalist forces’ outposts on the hills surrounding Hamouria, killing a child while injuring other civilians, including women and children. Loyalist artillery bombed Misraba, Duma, 10 km east of Damascus, killing a civilian. Similar bombings on Duma and Saqaba, 6 km east of Damascus, injured civilians, whose number was not specified, according to activists.

The activists added that suspected loyalist warplanes bombed Erbin, 9 km east of Damascus, nine times. Similar bombings hit the nearby city of Harasta. The bombings on Harasta coincided with ground-to-ground bombing from loyalist forces’ outposts nearby.

The Civil Defense in Eastern Ghouta said on their Facebook page that their teams in the centers numbered 90-1010-114-215-400 checked the bombed places in the cities and towns of Eastern Ghouta and evacuated the injured civilians to hospitals in the area.

The Civil Defense noted on their Facebook page that the 3-month-old infant Hamdi Tabajou died today due to loyalist bombing on Duma with poisonous Chlorine gas on Saturday. The bombing caused civilians to suffocate. Chlorine gas is a toxic gas that is used as a chemical weapon. The Syrian government has used it in a number of chemical attacks, including the attack on Eastern Ghouta near Damascus in August 2013, and the one in Khan Sheikhun, Idlib, April 2017.

Loyalist forces have intensified the bombing of besieged Eastern Ghouta, killing and injuring dozens of civilians as well as destroying residential buildings.

The loyalist bombings coincide with the opposition factions’ military operation in Harasta and the Armored Vehicle base in the city, killing and injuring dozens of loyalist forces, including officers.

On Sunday, the Civil Defense called upon local and international legal and humanitarian organizations to intervene in order to save the besieged civilians in Eastern Ghouta amidst loyalist forces’ military operation in the area.
