Daraa - SMART

Twenty-five criminal prisoners escaped from the Gharz village prison, Southern Syria (6 kilometers east of Daraa), which is under the House of Justice of Horan control. The prisoners benefited from the storm that hit the country recently.

The Head of the House of Justice of Horan, Ismat Al Absi, said that one of the prisoners escaped to Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham that handed him over to the court. The prisoner confessed that he, along with the other prisoners, took advantage of the wind sounds to open the wall with an iron tool they received from a bed. They escaped from the hall they opened to the broken part of the prison, which was destroyed by the loyalist forces bombing.

Atmospheric depression that hit the country led to rainfall in Syrian cities and snowfall at 1,000 meters altitude in Southern Syria. Also, the wind speed reached 80 kilometers per hour.

Absi said that the fugitives took advantage of the wind sounds to implement their plan. The warden did not know that they escaped until Absi called him. The warden said that there is nobody among the fugitives is accused of planting bombs or belonging to the Khaled Ibn Al Waleed army, which is charged with pledging the Islamic State among the escapees.

Absi said the court is willing to hand the prison guarding to a security agency that is affiliated with the Free Police, because, “guarding the prison is not the court’s mission,” said Absi. He pointed out the shortage of guards, as there are six to 20 voluntary guards.

On Oct. 29, 2017, twenty prisoners escaped from the Gharz prison after they smuggled blades with their food, to open the windows.
