On Sunday, the Free Syrian Army (FSA), which is a military gathering founded in July 2011 by dissident officers of the Syrian loyalist forces to protest the violence against peaceful demonstrators, and Turkish soldiers began a land attack within the Olive Branch Operation in the Afrin region, 41 km north of Aleppo, Northern Syria.

A trusted source told SMART that 1,000 infantry fighters from FSA factions and the Turkish Army has begun an attack on the villages surrounding the town of Rajo, northwest of the city of Afrin, under the cover of Turkish warplanes.

The source pointed out that the FSA fighters and the Turkish soldiers are advancing in the region without clashing with members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which is an alliance of factions and military forces sponsored by the United States.

The FSA fighters began to prepare the move towards the area of ​​Afrin from Turkish military bases in the area. The SDF said that they repeled attacks by the Turkish Army, resulting in losses in its ranks.

On Saturday evening, the Turkish Chief of Staff announced the start of the military operation in Afrin against the Kurdish People’s Protection Units in the name of the Olive Branch Operation, amid raids by its warplanes on the region. Three Turkish warplanes have landed after the start of the operation in the Incirlik air base in Southern Turkey.
