Idlib - SMART

On Sunday, the Turkish Internet service was disconnected from the Northern governorates of Syria, coinciding with the military operation launched by Turkey in the Afrin region, 41 km north of Aleppo.

A Turkish Internet service provider in Syria told SMART that the Turkish authorities asked the owners of the Internet dishes south of its territory to stop broadcasting the network to Syria. He warned that they would confiscate the dishes of any violators.

Earlier today, the factions of the Free Syrian Army and Turkish soldiers began a ground attack within the Olive Branch Operation in Afrin.

Several companies provide Internet to some of the cities and towns beyond the Syrian government's control. Last year, Syrian companies started to install Internet portals in Northern Syria via a Turkish line in cooperation with local councils.

On Saturday evening, the Turkish Chief of Staff announced the start of a military operation in Afrin against the Kurdish People’s Protection Units under the code name Olive Branch Operation, amid raids by its warplanes on the region. Three Turkish warplanes have landed after the start of the operation in the Incirlik air base in Southern Turkey.
