Daraa - SMART

On Sunday, the loyalist forces arrested several people from Al Sanamayn, 50 km north of Daraa, Southern Syria. They threatened to bomb the city if the residents do not return the fighter who was kidnapped two days ago from the road leading to the city.

Security tensions arose between Free Syrian Army factions in Al Sanamayn and the loyalist forces that surround the city. Tension grew after a loyalist row officer was kidnapped from the main road between Al Sanamayn and the government’s Ninth Division headquarters.

A military source, who preferred not to be named, from the Al Fajr brigade, which is affiliated with the FSA, said that the loyalists mobilized and reinforced their forces with a tank and a Doshka vehicle. This coincided with the arrest of several people from Al Sanamayn at the Center and Hamamat loyalist checkpoints.

The source added that the Ninth Division leadership sent threats through figures from Al Sanamayn of bombing the city with more than 100 bombs, if they did not return the kidnapped row officer before nightfall.

The loyalist forces closed the road between Al Sanamayn and Damascus for 13 hours. They closed the Kanya, Jabab, Qita checkpoints in the perimeter of the city as well, to open them later. The security tension is still growing in the city and surrounding areas.

FSA factions control the residential neighborhoods of Al Sanamayn, whereas the loyalist forces control the main road and the institutions; hence the mismatching news about the latter entering the city through a reconciliation in the end of Dec. 2016.
