Afrin - SMART

On Friday, the people of the Nahiyat Jindayris in the Afrin region, 43 km north of Aleppo, Northern Syria, appealed to the international community and concerned parties to protect them and end the Turkish bombardment on the area.

On Wednesday, according to the testimonies of a number of residents, artillery bombardment hit the center of Jindayris, killing and wounding a number of people, while residents went down to the basements of residential buildings for protection.

A woman from Jindayris, who introduced herself as Umm Cesar, told SMART that the shelling was continuing on Thursday night, forcing her to take shelter with her neighbors in the basement of a house.

A resident of Jindayris, Mustafa Kaldlo, said that the Turkish shelling of the area began on Jan. 20th. Another resident, who introduced himself as Abu Muhammad, condemned the bombing on his building, which caused material damage.

On Wednesday, a military source in the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the region said that Turkish warplanes bombed Jindayris, killing two civilians and wounding others.

Seven days ago, factions of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Turkish soldiers launched a ground attack from several bases as part of the Olive Branch Operation in the Afrin area, which is controlled by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units as part of the SDF. The FSA gained control of several villages and hills in the area in the clashes.
