Idlib, SMART

On Monday morning, suspected Russian warplanes bombed a market in Saraqib, 16 kilometers east of Idlib, Northern Syria, killing more than ten civilians while injuring others. Earlier, Russian bombings killed five civilians, including women and children, in the town of Maasaran.

A Civil Defense source told SMART that this morning, suspected Russian warplanes targeted the potatoes market in Saraqib, killing at least 12 civilians, including two unidentified persons, while injuring ten others as well as causing severe material damage to the market.

A medical source said that the Civil Defense transported eight dead civilians to the hospital in Saraqib, adding that the death toll is probably much higher because civilians are still trapped under the rubble. Activists said that a similar bombing on the city’s outskirts killed one civilian.

At dawn, suspected Russian warplanes bombed the town of Maasaran in Southern Idlib, killing five civilians. The victims were a mother and her children. The bombing on Maasaran coincided with similar bombings on the northern outskirts of Maarrat al-Nu'man in addition to Jarjanaz and al-Ghadfa in Eastern Maarrat al-Nu'man.

Suspected Russian warplanes bombed residential neighborhoods in Maarrat Harma in Kafranbel, Southern Idlib, injuring one civilian.

These airstrikes follow yesterday's 100 airstrikes by Russian and loyalist warplanes and helicopters on Eastern and Southern Idlib, including 50 airstrikes on Saraqib alone, killing and injuring dozens of civilians.

Yesterday, the Local Council of Saraqib announced the city as devastated, following the airstrikes campaign that has destroyed most of the major civil institutions such as hospitals, medical clinics, bakeries, and markets. The Educational Directorate in Idlib has suspended school for two days in the cities of Saraqib, Maarrat al-Nu'man, and Kafranbel.

Loyalist forces supported by Russian warplanes have launched a military campaign that has resulted in gaining control of Abu al-Duhur military air base and dozens of villages, killing and injuring dozens of civilians. The campaign has also destroyed major institutions and displaced thousands of civilians, according to the United Nations' statistics.
