Turkey - SMART

The news agency Anatolia said that on Wednesday, the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) in the Afrin region north of Aleppo, Northern Syria, launched rockets on the district of Rayhanli in Hatay, Southern Turkey, killing a woman and wounding a civilian.

According to the agency, the YPG launched two rockets on two houses in the neighborhood of Gul Tabh of Rayhanli, injuring a girl and a young man. The girl later died due to her injuries. The agency added that the shelling also caused material damage to houses and cars in the region.

The agency added that the YPG targeted the area, again, with a third rocket falling onto an empty residential house in the neighborhood, without causing any casualties.

On Jan. 21, 2018, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), of which the YPG is the main component, accused the Turkish Army of shelling the district of Rayhanli, al-Rayhaniya city, in the state of Hatay on the border with Syria.

On Saturday, artillery bombardment by the YPG in the Afrin district, 43 km northwest of Aleppo, wounded two civilians in the city of Kels, Southern Turkey.

On the Syrian-Turkish border, the cities of Kels and Rayhaniya were shelled and bombed several times after the Turkish Chief of Staff announced the start of the Olive Branch Operation with the Free Syrian Army against the YPG in Afrin.
