Free Syrian Army gains control of five villages south of Afrin and facilitates opening of road towards Northern Aleppo

On Friday, the Free Syrian Army (FSA), which is a military gathering founded in July 2011 by dissident officers of the Syrian loyalist forces to protest the violence against the peaceful demonstrators. Have gained control of five villages in Jendiris and Sheikh Hadid of Afrin area north of Aleppo, Northern Syria, in cooperation with Turkish forces. This gaining came after fighting with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance of factions and military forces, sponsored by the United States. This development facilitates opening a road towards the northern countryside of Aleppo.

The participating factions in the Olive Branch Operation said on their Twitter account that they gained control of the villages of Nasriya, Dukan and Ashqan Arabi in the area of Jendiris, 20 kilometers south of Afrin.

The factions also announced their control of the villages of Jaqla Fauqani and Jaqla Wastani in the nearby Sheikh Hadid district, after clashes with the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), without giving further details.

Earlier this morning, the factions announced that they regained control of the village of Hammam in Jendiris district, southwest of Afrin after the YPG had advanced in it.

A member of the media office of the Sham Corps, Zain al-Halabi, told SMART that seven members of the YPG were killed during the clashes, while military sources confirmed the killing of three of the FSA.

The sources pointed out that the FSA seized Kalashnikov rifles and RPG launchers during the confrontations.

The factions of the FSA and the Turkish forces are advancing through several areas. They have gained control of some villages and towns along the borderline inside the Syrian territory. This development facilitates the opening of a road along the Turkish border between the northern Aleppo countryside and north Idlib countryside.

Earlier today, the Turkish Army announced the destruction of 19 targets included weapons stores belonging to the YPG after being targeted by air raids, according to Anatolia, which gave no further details.

On Jan. 20, the Turkish Army with factions of the FSA launched a ground attack as part of the Olive Branch Operation in Afrin, which is controlled by SDF. They have gained control of several villages and hills since its launch.
