Turkey - SMART

On Saturday, the Israeli army announced that an F16 Israeli warplane crashed after bombing Iranian locations in Syria. The army also stated that Israel will bomb 12 Iranian targets in retaliation to crashing the warplane.

On his official Facebook page, the Israeli Army's Spokesman, Avichay Adraee, said that the Israeli warplane was hit over Syria, and the two Israeli pilots managed to eject out of it before it crashed. One of pilots suffered major injuries and both were transported to the Rambam hospital in Haifa.

Adraee said that Israel considered this ”an Iranian assault on the Israeli sovereignty" and that "Iran is dragging the region to an endless adventure,”. He added that the Israeli forces are in mobilization and will move when it is needed.

Adraee pointed out that targeting the Israeli warplane came after Israel destroyed an Iranian robot plane, launched from the T4 airport in Homs. He added that Israeli warplanes executed what he called a "complicated air raid" inside Syria to destroy the launching vehicle of the Iranian plane.

In a later Facebook post, Adraee said that Israel bombed 12 targets in Syria, three of which were Loyalist air defense bases, and four others were Iranian locations.

Syrian loyalist media said that the loyalist forces repelled an Israeli attack on a military base in Central Syria, adding that the loyalist forces hit more than one Israeli warplanes and that the attack injured two persons.

Syrian loyalist media also said that suspected Israeli explosions were heard in the Keswa and al-Dimas neighbourhoods in the Damascene countryside, adding that the loyalist forces repelled other attacks. The Israeli 10th news channel said that Israeli warplanes targeted a republican guard unit in Damascus.

The loyalist forces are considered to have destroyed an Israeli warplane for the first time since 1973. Last May, the loyalist forces announced that they destroyed an Israeli warplane after it bombed loyalist bases in Palmyra, but the Israeli army denied that incident.

On October 21st last year, Israel bombed a loyalist military base in al-Qunaitra, Southern Syria, in retaliation to a loyalist missile dropped on the occupied Golan heights.

The Israeli attacks on loyalist locations are a part of a series of attacks on loyalist, and Hezbollah militia’s, bases. As Israel has lately targeted several locations, the most important of these have been al-Mazza military airport, and a missile base in Damascus.
