On Monday, the Turkish Army revealed the killing of 31 Turkish soldiers and the wounding of more than 100 others in clashes with the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in the Afrin area of ​​Aleppo, Northern Syria. The YPG is an armed force of Kurdish fighters of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party. Its establishment was discovered in 2012, one year after the Syrian Revolution began.

The Turkish General Staff said in a statement that 31 soldiers had been killed and 143 wounded, since the start of the Olive Branch Operation in Afrin, according to Turkish media.

On Jan. 20, the Turkish Army and factions of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) launched the first ground military attack as part of the Olive Branch Operation in the area of ​​Afrin, controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), of which the YPG is the main component. The FSA and the Turkish Army have gained control during the operation of several villages and hills in the region.
